Buying The Correct Bike For You

Most people assume picking the right bike is an easy task. They think that all they have to do is pick out which bicycle looks the prettiest to them and allows them to sit comfortably. They're not exactly right about that, though, because there are more things that need to be considered when choosing the perfect cycling bicycle. Cycling is very popular at the moment, be it for sports, fun, transportation etc. With all these uses there are many different bikes to go with each. It is popular in modern times to use a bike as a serious mode of transport. There are also plenty of families that cycle as a hobby. Here is how you choose the right cycling bicycle for your needs.

You need to make sure you pick a bike that is the right size. Begin by measuring your inseam. Simply measure the distance from your groin to the bottom of your foot, down the inside of your leg. You should be able to sit on your bike while keeping both feet flat on the ground. If you can do this you need not worry about stopping in an emergency if your brakes malfunction.

If you want to ride a road bike, you will need to subtract about nine inches from your inseam measurement. The size of the tires a road bike uses are the reason for this. These tires will be thinner and designed for efficiency on concrete roads or pavements. For a mountain bike take away 12 inches from your inseam. Again this is to account for the size of tires. You will find them to be much bigger and designed to handle rocky terrain. You can of course use a mountain bike for road cycling but this isn't supposed to be their primary use.

You should already have your safety gear bought and ready to go. The new bicycle helmets look and feel nothing like the old bicycle helmets. Not only are they made to better protect you, but they are also made to appeal a bit more aesthetically. You must always wear your helmet when you are riding your bike, no matter what. You never know when that little Source detail is going to save you from an early grave.

It wouldn't hurt to also get some elbow and knee pads, and some wrist and ankle guards if you are going to take your bike off-road. If you are going to be using your bicycle as your sole means of transportation, you should think of investing in some pants clips as well. Pants clips are designed to hold your pants in place so they don't get caught up in the chain or the gears of the bike.

When purchasing a bicycle, you have tons to consider. While you shop, you must make decisions from safety issues to fashion concerns. If you feel like you are being deluged by choices, you are perfectly normal. A little time spent looking into the choices will allow you to relax and buy the best bike for you.

Before heading out to the store, learn a little bit about the available choices. The peace it will offer during shopping makes it very worthwhile.
